A hashtag is worth hundreds of thousands of words. Generate some buzz about your upcoming event with a unique hashtag!

Hashtags are a great way to facilitate and keep track of online conversation about your event before, during, and after you bring the house down.

But, you can’t just throw any old phrase behind that pound sign! Your event’s hashtag needs to stand out to online audiences, be memorable, and simple. Not sure where to start? Splash is here to help.

1. Brand, Brand, Brand

The purpose of your event? Deliver experiences, not just product! It's important that you include your brand in every aspect of your event, including online conversation.

Connecting your brand to a hashtag keeps your product at the forefront of an online audience. It also adds specificity, vamping up the uniqueness of your hashtag. Using specific language (think #SplashIntoSummer) instead of generic terms (think #Summer, #Party) will give your hashtag a greater, more targeted impact.

Pro tip: Search your hashtag on social media platforms to ensure it hasn't been used already!

2. Keep It Short! Keep It Clear!

Don’t try to be too clever or cryptic. People are more inclined to use your hashtag on social media if they can remember it and type it easily. #SplashIntoSummer is more effective than #SplashIn2SummR2015, for example.

3. Tread Carefully

Make sure that your hashtag can’t be misread as something you don’t want your message to be. For example, if we were cross-promoting with Spotify, we might want to re-think a hashtag like #splashlovespot (some might not read it as #SplashLoveSpot). Lest we forget #susanalbumparty…

The BA Burger Deluxe from Bon Appetit.

4. Monogamy Is A Thing

Pick one hashtag and stick to it. Having several different event hashtags will confuse your audience. Not only that, but multiple hashtags can diffuse any momentum behind online engagement. You want to trend, don’t you?!

Congrats! You’re on your way to creating a kick-ass hashtag that will spur some serious online engagement!

Pro tip: Search your hashtag on social media platforms to ensure it hasn't been used already!
