20 Stats From the Splash Database

When you build a platform that makes it easier for people to throw better events, you get a front-row seat to what’s happening in the party universe.

I’m Chief Party Scientist here at Splash, which means it’s my job to keep a finger on the pulse of every single trend, from the hottest venues to the freshest tech.


As we close out an incredible Q1, I thought it’d be fun to dig into the Splash database to unearth the hottest party trends on Splash. Hold onto your butts, kids. Here we go:

80%

01 | 82% of wedding-themed Splash pages contained photos of vintage mason jars.

02 | 78% of all hackathon Splash pages utilized the word “disrupt” in the event title.

 

03 | 25% of all events held in St. Louis featured at least one Nelly GIF on the Splash page.

 

04 | 80% of all events held in Brooklyn were held in honor of a rescue dog. 77% took place in repurposed loft or abandoned warehouse. 

Black and white photos were also a big trend.

05 | 59% of all speaker bios on design-themed events included the phrase “maker.”

 

06 | 49% of all law firm happy hour recruiting events contained an average of 108 lines of legalese.

 

07 | 47% of all Splash pages created for DC Metro area events featured at least one photo of someone sporting Sperry Topsiders.

 

08 | 54% of all Splash pages created for LA events contained the word “valet.”

 

09 | 26% of Chicago event menus featured cocktails that attempted to make Malort palatable.

 

10 | 37% of the menus listed on SXSW-themed Splash pages contained tacos. 12% included horchata shots. 8% contained jalapeño corn bread.

 

11 | 45% of female birthday pages contained at least one Beyonce GIF, compared to 22% of male birthday pages.

ACT 2: Dusk

This Bey GIF was second only to this one.

12 | 87% of all signature drink names served at ad-tech company happy hours ended with “tini.” The most common offense: “The Mobile-Tini.”

 

13 | 24% of all 25th birthday party pages hosted on Splash used the phrase “Back at it again.”

 

14 | 63% of all Splash pages created by Brooklyn residents included a SoundCloud link to Justin Bieber's “Sorry.”

 

15 | 80% of events taking place in San Francisco were classified as product launch parties.

 

16 | 80% of events held in Wisconsin featured at least three cheese appetizers on the Splash page.

 

17 | 10% of all GIFs used on RSVP button hover states featured rotating pizzas.

This GIF was second only to this one.

18 | 45% of all image blocks used on backyard BBQ events featured photos of steaming meat.

 

19 | 98.6% of startup recruiting events mentioned a ping pong table and “lots of snacks” in the event description.

 

20 | 6% of all happy hour pages included a Drake GIF; a large majority of which took place in Toronto.
